John H. Albin, a native of Humboldt, Nebraska, was appointed as Commissioner of Labor by Gov. Pete Ricketts in January 2015. Prior to becoming Commissioner, Albin served as the Acting Commissioner and General Counsel to the Nebraska Department of Labor.
Albin received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska, College of Law, and was admitted to practice in 1979. Immediately after graduation, he worked for the Nebraska Legislature as a legislative aide, committee counsel and bill drafter before entering private practice in 1982. Albin joined the Department of Labor as an administrative law judge in 1990, moved to the Legal Division in 1993 and became General Counsel in 2000.   In October 2014, Albin received the Legal Award of Merit from the National Association of Workforce Agencies, Legal Issue Forum, for contributions to the unemployment insurance program. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of State Workforce Agencies and is a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association and its Government Practice Section.
